What is Selenite and how do I use it?
Selenite is actually the mineral gypsum and comes in four different varieties. These four varieties are Selenite, Satin Spar, Desert Rose and Gypsum Flower. They are usually grouped together and called Selenite. Satin Spar is described as silky, fibrous, pearly, and milky. Selenite and Satin Spar can look so similar, it can be hard to tell them apart. All of the Selenite varieties are soft stones with a Mohs hardness of only 2. In comparison, Clear Quartz crystals are a 7 on the scale and Diamonds are a 10. Because of its softness and chemical composition, Selenite will dissolve if exposed to water for extended periods of time. The name, Selenite, comes from the ancient Greek word for the moon and is associated with the Titan goddess in Greek mythology, Selene. Some of the larges crystals ever found are Selenite and were found in the Cave of the Crystals in Naica, Chihuahua, Mexico. The crystals they found are about 39 feet long and weigh 55 tons!
Lets talk about a few of the metaphysical properties of Selenite. Selenite is known for its cleansing, clearing, and charging properties. It focuses and amplifies white light energy to cleanse many things. It can and will remove blockages from your chakras and from your aura. People place jewelry and crystals on Selenite wands to cleanse and charge them. Many energetic healers also use Selenite to “wipe” away stagnant energies from the body. I have also heard of people taping a small piece of Selenite to their body to assist with removing pain.

Depending on the amount of iron oxide present the peach Selenite can be a pale yellowish color to a deep orange.
